How Do I Make it Stop? (An immersive VR experience) (Graduate Semester Project v.1)

It all started when…

my apartment building was being renovated for 11 months, and I was awoken early every day to the sound of drilling and banging that continued for hours on end. Living in a bustling city comes with its perks, but the constant barrage of noise pollution can take a toll on one's well-being. This realization fueled my desire to seek out a solution to this pervasive issue. Drawing on my background in sound design in Unity and incorporating my new skills in audio programming, I embarked on a mission to develop a high-tech solution in a VR environment to combat noise pollution.

After months of dedicated research and innovative design, my team and I successfully created a state-of-the-art sound suppression system utilizing new techniques with beamforming and adaptive noise cancellation. This advanced rendering technique not only mitigates the impact of urban noise pollution but can also enhance the overall quality of life for city dwellers, as it allows the user to specifically target and ‘cancel’ unwanted sounds. As a result, I am proud to have contributed to prototyping a solution that could lead to a more peaceful and harmonious urban environment for all.
